The Ohio Risk Assessment System (ORAS), is an evidence based practice. An evidence based practice is the knowledge and research developed around methods and tools which reduce recidivism (returning to incarceration). The ORAS tools can be used in the following ways: at pretrial; before or while on community supervision; at prison intake; and preparation to reentry just prior to release from prison.
