Presented by Kent State University School of Art at Center for the Visual Arts at Kent State

Join us for an artist talk with visiting artist in Textiles, Cathryn Amidei. This lecture is a part of the Kent Blossom Art Lecture Series where visiting artists come from all over the country to teach workshops and give lectures at Kent State University’s School of Art. All lectures begin at 6:00 p.m. in room 165 at the Center for the Visual Arts (325 Terrace Dr. in Kent, Ohio) and are FREE and open to the public.

Cathryn Amidei is an Associate Professor at Eastern Michigan University and has exhibited her work widely. Her work combines design technology with the craftsmanship of hand weaving. She designs and plots her weaving patterns using computerized design software and then hand weaves her patterns using up to eight different shuttles to create weftback weaves and brocade areas in her pieces. Cathryn Amidei has been weaving Jacquard by hand and at mills for 15 years. She spent a year working at Digital Weaving Norway and has travelled extensively teaching and training on the TC2 Jacquard loom.
