Natural Building Techniques for Resilience

Natural Building Techniques for Resilience

Presented by GAINS - Greater Akron Innovation Network for Sustainability at Crown Point Ecology Center

“Natural Building” is the topic of the June GAINS meeting. Our speakers include sustainability expert, Paul Feezel, who will share the joys, challenges and lessons learned in building a strawbale home. And we’ll learn about cob construction from acclaimed natural builder, Uncle Mud.

Besides hearing about natural building, we’ll have the opportunity to see the new outdoor cob pizza oven/rocket stove at Crown Point Ecology Center, our host this month. Even better – freshly baked pizza is planned, so “be green” and bring a plate and your own beverage/water bottle. You can also bring a folding chair to sit outside by the oven before/after the meeting.

Come at 5:30 (or earlier) to network and/or explore the beautiful grounds; you’ll discover a medicine wheel, a labyrinth, vegetable gardens (CSA), permaculture swales, and much more. The program will begin at 6:15 in the barn.

After the two presentations, attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and engage in a dialogue with our speakers.

Since 2012, the GAINS Network has regularly held meetings on the 2nd Wednesday of the month. In the most recent months, GAINS has been focused on exploring change, transition, and resiliency in our eco-systems, both environmental and social. Meeting locations have been changing in 2017 in order to strengthen core relationships and better focus on advancing innovative ideas, and sustainable values and practices in the marketplace. The salon-style meetings are free and interactive and open to anyone interested in learning about and engaging with community partners on the leading edge of sustainability.
