The Chosen People? movie debut

Presented by Joshua Tree Video Productions at Akron-Summit County Public Library (Main)

The Chosen People? A Film about Jewish Identity asks whether any religious or ethnic group can claim to be “God’s Chosen People.” Though focused on Jewish identity, the film explores Jewish relations with the Christian and Islamic world over the past two millennia right up to the present day. Among many other themes, this controversial film asks the viewer to consider Jewish chosenness in the context of white supremacy and asks whether Bible ought to be taken literally or viewed as mythical stories. This epic journey takes the viewer to the very core of religious belief and practice by asking what it means to form a covenant with God, as the Israelites were chosen to do at Mount Sinai.

The film features some of the world’s foremost experts on the topic, along with some Akron area clergy, including Rabbi David Horowitz, Rabbi Stephen Grundfast, Rabbi Mendel Sasonkin, Pastor Elden Smith, and Imam Nader Taha.
