The Cuyahoga Valley Art Center Offers Area Artists the Opportunity to Participate in a Plein Air Competition with a $500 Prize

The Cuyahoga Valley Art Center (CVAC), 2131 Front Street Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221, invites all area artists to participate in their Crooked River Plein Air Competition, taking place from July 22nd – July 28th. The participant submissions will then be on display at the Cuyahoga Valley Art Center from August 1st – August 31st with a select few traveling to the exhibition spaces within the Cuyahoga Falls City Hall.

Plein Air is a French term meaning outdoors and/or open air. It denotes a French style of impressionistic painting completed in an outdoor setting. The Crooked River Plein Air competition seeks to highlight Ohio’s Cuyahoga River and its watershed. Holding a Plein Air competition has been a tradition at CVAC for a number of years. However, this year they have elevated the structure of this competition to the artists advantage.

Registration for this competition will be held on Friday July 21st at the Cuyahoga Valley Art Center (CVAC), 2131 Front Street Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221 from 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM and Saturday July 22nd at CVAC from 10:00 AM – Noon. Registration cost is $75 for members of CVAC and $100 for non-members of CVAC.

The Crooked River Plein Air competition kicks off with an Artist Get Together on Saturday July 22nd from 10:00 AM – Noon and offers three paint outs for participants during the competition time frame. Each paint out lasts 4 hours and is led by a seasoned subject matter expert/coach. This year the coaches are Dino Massaroni, Jack Mulhollen and Sally Heston. These paint outs are intended to support participating artists within a group environment in an outdoor setting (rain or shine).

The winner of the CROOKED RIVER PLEIN AIR COMPETITION will win a $500 prize package, second-place will be awarded a $100 cash prize and third-place will take home a $50 cash prize. Up to 30 art works will be selected from this exhibition to travel to the Cuyahoga Falls City Hall exhibition space after the completion of CVAC’s exhibition.

This exhibition shall display a painterly snap-shot of Ohio’s Cuyahoga River Watershed today, leaving a lasting lifetime impression of this time and place. To learn more or pick up a copy of the competition prospectus please visit CVAC in person or http://www.cvart.org/exhibits
