Crooked River Plein Air Exhibition

The Cuyahoga Valley Art Center Offered Area Artists the Opportunity to Participate in a Plein Air Competition with a $500 Prize

The Cuyahoga Valley Art Center (CVAC), 2131 Front Street Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221, invited all area artists to participate in their Crooked River Plein Air Competition, taking place from July 22nd – July 28th. The participant submissions will then be on display at the Cuyahoga Valley Art Center from August 1st – August 31st with a select few traveling to the exhibition spaces within the Cuyahoga Falls City Hall.

Plein Air is a French term meaning outdoors and/or open air. It denotes a French style of impressionistic painting completed in an outdoor setting. The Crooked River Plein Air competition seeks to highlight Ohio’s Cuyahoga River and its watershed. Holding a Plein Air competition has been a tradition at CVAC for a number of years. However, this year they have elevated the structure of this competition to the artists advantage.

The Crooked River Plein Air competition kicked off with an Artist Get Together and offered three paint outs for participants during the competition time frame. Each paint out lasted 4 hours and was led by a seasoned subject matter expert/coach. This year the coaches were Dino Massaroni, Jack Mulhollen and Sally Heston. These paint outs were intended to support participating artists within a group environment in an outdoor setting (rain or shine).

Come celebrate the artists and their accomplishments within the competition at CVAC on August 11st from 5:30-7:00 for the Crooked River Plein Air Reception.

This exhibition shall display a painterly snap-shot of Ohio’s Cuyahoga River Watershed today, leaving a lasting lifetime impression of this time and place. To learn more or pick up a copy of the competition prospectus please visit CVAC in person or http://www.cvart.org/exhibits
