Jack Diamond art show Aug. 25-Oct.14 at Nine Muses

Presented by Summit Artspace at Nine Muses Art Gallery

With studios in Barberton and New York City, Jack Diamond will be on hand for the free opening of his one-man show, Jack Diamond in 4D, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. during Barberton 4th Friday. Named for the 40 years Diamond has been creating, the exhibition runs until October 14.

Nine Muses, located at 584 W. Tuscarawas Ave., is operated by Summit Artspace, the community art center for Akron and the surrounding area.

Diamond describes himself as a storyteller without words but using color, line and form to weave a tale that seeks to connect emotionally with viewers. Contemporary stories interest him the most whether in the form a landscape, cityscape, the relationship between people or an abstract work.

“I paint by memory because I want to paint only the memorable,” Diamond says. “My compositions take form in my imagination based on my experiences.”

Diamond sold his first painting at 18 as a young man living with his family in Barberton. He did not pursue formal art training but apprenticed to master craftsmen, learning restoration work and painting reproductions, murals, faux and trompe l’oeil pieces for demanding clients.

Diamond attended the University of Akron where he studied theater scene painting. He has designed and painted scenery for numerous theater productions and has painted private commissions around the world. He taught painting at Ashland University and The Richland Art Academy.

Currently, his work reflects his interest in math and its connection to nature, specifically fractal geometry, exploring the idea of fusing infinite and finite lines on a three-dimensional plane.

“This idea inspired my newest works on plexi glass. This approach is exciting to me and opens up numerous new possibilities in my exploration or ways to express and share my view of the world,” Diamond says.

Nine Muses Gallery hours are Mondays, 7 a.m.-4 p.m.; Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 7 a.m.-8 p.m.; Thursdays, 7 a.m.-9 p.m.; Saturdays, 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Closed on Sundays. The gallery is open for Barberton Fourth Friday. Nine Muses is located at 584 W. Tuscarawas Ave., Barberton.
