MUwDV - Shani Richards Live Interview

MUwDV - Shani Richards Live Interview

Presented by Made-Up w/ Danny Volk at Mary Schiller Myers School of Art: The University of Akron

Join us for a live interview with local artist, Shani Richards at Folk Hall (The University of Akron) on Saturday, October 7 at 2:00 pm.

MUwDV is an artist interview series in which Volk asks artists questions while they create art on his face using everyday makeup. Danny’s face is revealed at the end of the interview, creating a fun and exciting climax to the informative conversation. Local band Comfort Clouds will be playing before each live Akron interview.

Shani is a metalsmith, an Akron native and an alumna of Myers School of Art. She earned her MFA in Metals from SUNY New Paltz and creates objects that address issues of colonialsim, racism, sexism, and stereotypes to provoke the viewer into critical engagement. She was part of exhibition titled “A Kind of Confession” at the National Ornamental Memphis Metal Museum. Shani along with David Clemmons, William Rhodes, and Joyce Scott participated in a panel discussion on African American Artists and Art Museum Representation as part of The Association of African American Museums Conference at the Peabody Hotel at Memphis, Tennessee.

Shani lives and works in Akron. http://www.shani-richards.com/
