Local theatre legend, Harriet DeVeto, performs a staged reading of Julia Sweeney’s “Letting Go of God.” DeVeto is thrilled to be back on the WRP stage after appearing in “Scotland Road”, directed by Co-Artistic Director Brian Westerley, earlier this fall. DeVeto has appeared on local & regional stages, including a stint off-Broadway in “Death of a Salesman” opposite Hal Holbrook. Her most recent performances include: “4000 Miles” & “The Waverly Gallery” at Weathervane; “Sans Merci” at None Too Fragile; “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” at Stow Players; “Night of January 16th at WRP; & her OCTA award-winning role as Silda in “Other Desert Cities” at Wolf Creek Players.
Letting Go of God is a humorous monologue by Julia Sweeney chronicling her search for God. She begins in the Catholic Church, the religion her family raised her in, & takes a Bible study class. What she learns there leads her to new questions &, in her search for answers, she explores meditation, Buddhism & New Age gurus. She discovers that to accept the truth leads to surprising revelations.
