Social Justice refers to the equity of chances and is the prerequisite for peace, prosperity and cultural blossoming. For both artists and cultural players, creating an impact on social justice through their projects is not only an attitude, but a strategic challenge. In this workshop, Leonie Hodkevitch shall explore and develop mechanisms and strategies to upgrade arts and culture projects from different disciplines by significant social justice features.

Work Session with Akron Area Alternative Theatre Companies
Topic: Intercultural Communication: A Map of Opportunities
Wednesday, March 14, 2018
5pm-7pm
Balch Street Theatre
220 South Balch Street
Akron, OH 44302

This is a very participatory workshop, during which intercultural communication skills are trained. Cultural variety broadens our horizon and shapes our professional success. Alternatively, it can be at the core of conflicts and failures. In the unknown lies the opportunity: hope, curiosity, and sometimes fear. Participants will exercise approaching and building relationships with representatives from other cultures, based on our common characteristics, while respecting the cultural differences.

Leonie is the director of the Cultural Management Postgraduate Certificate Course at the University of Vienna and member of the Jury of Experts for the European Union’s cultural funding. She teaches Cultural Entrepreneurship and Intercultural Competence for distinguished universities across Europe and the USA, municipalities, ministries, and organizations such as the IOM/UNO.
