Clothes for Comfort: Clothing Kits for Sexual Assault Survivors

Clothes for Comfort: Clothing Kits for Sexual Assault Survivors

Presented by Because I Said I Would - Akron at Akron-Summit County Public Library (Main)

However 2 out of 3 sexual assaults go unreported and those who make the choice to come forward face many challenges ahead of them.

When sexual assault victims seek medical attention and rape kits are performed, those women, men and children are asked to surrender their clothing for DNA evidence. Once clothing has been surrendered, the traumatized victim has nothing else to wear home but a hospital gown…only adding insult to injury. Together, with your help, we can provide victims with the resources necessary to take the first step on the road to healing.

What: Join us for an evening of hope and healing as we create clothing kits for victims of sexual assault. These kits will be available at Akron General Hospital through the help of their PATH center, which provides support to victims reporting abuse. Together the kits will be sorted and assembled by size, and we will be including handwritten notes and letters for comfort, support and positivity. We will also have an awareness aspect as we have a guest speaker coming to discuss sexual assault in the Akron area and the resources and programs available in the area.

Who: Open to volunteers 18 and over

When: Wednesday March 28th 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM

Where: Akron-Summit County Public Library located at 60 S High St. Akron, OH 44326. We will be meeting in meeting room 2AB.
