Narrating Art: Ekphrastic and Blackout Poetry

Narrating Art: Ekphrastic and Blackout Poetry

at Lock 3 Akron

Workshop participants will write poems influenced by three of Akron Soul Train’s fellows and their artwork. Folks will be able to interact and reflect on local artist’s pieces– Stephen Tomasko’s photograph “Winter Was Hard”, Gabe Gott’s blackout poetry based on Moby Dick, and Michelle Droll’s assemblage “Land Sack”. Through word play and blackout poetry, beginners to advanced poets will surf through the world of language. Attendees will leave with an understanding of how visual art can interact with and inspire poetry.

Event attendees will meet at Lock 3 for brief instructions before walking over to the Fellow Retrospective Exhibition in the Curated Storefront at the Polsky Building to be inspired by the art on display.

Event image is “Winter Was Hard” by Stephen Tomasko.
