With guest pianists Caroline Oltmanns and Mark Nixon, featuring the works of Claude Debussy (1862-1918) at the 100th anniversary of his death.
The University of Akron’s Kulas Concert Series kicks off its 2018-2019 season with a keyboard tribute to Claude Debussy on Sunday, Sept. 30, at 3 p.m. in the School of Music’s Guzzetta Recital Hall. Guest pianists Mark Nixon and Caroline Oltmanns join UA faculty.
With “a great spirit and nimble fingers,” (Pretoria News),Nixon is a sought-after concerto performer and soloist throughout Europe and South Africa. He is a graduate of the University of Cape Town, University of South Africa (UNISA), the Amsterdam Conservatory and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London.
An International Steinway Artist, Steinway Spirio Recording Artist, Fulbright Scholar, and recipient of the Stipendium der deutschen Wirtschaft, Oltmanns is Professor of Piano at Youngstown State University and holds degrees from the Staatliche MusikhochschuleFreiburg and the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.
The Kulas Concert Series is the UA School of Music’s signature series, supported by the Cleveland-based Kulas Foundation, showcasing stellar guest, faculty and student artists.
