Forms and Field, Reflection of a Residency; Italy, new works by Maria Zanetta

Presented by Harris Stanton Gallery at Unknown

Harris ∙ Stanton Gallery in Akron is pleased to announce the opening of Forms and Field, Reflection of a Residency; Italy, new works by Maria Zanetta on October 4th, 2018. Maria Zanetta was born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where she studied Fine Arts at the National School for the Arts. She received her doctorate in comparative literature and art at Ohio State University. Zanetta is a Distinguished Professor at the University of Akron, where she teaches a wide range of courses in Hispanic literature, language and culture. Maria’s artwork is held by public and private collectors in the United States, South America and Europe, among them Ohio State University, The University of Akron and the Ortega y Gasset Foundation, Toledo, Spain. Maria currently lives and works in Akron Ohio.

The works in Zanetta’s upcoming exhibition, Forms and Field, Reflection of a Residency; Italy, focus on printmaking and collage and are inspired by a yearlong stay in Rome, Italy. Her current landscapes feature Tuscan rolling hills, the Italian countryside and the picturesque streets and bridges of Rome. The nudes in the exhibition are inspired by life drawing classes Zanetta attended while living in Rome and reflect her interest in the interplay among different mediums such as Japanese ink, collage, charcoal, pastels, watercolor and acrylic. The end result is a body of work that is bold, dynamic and multilayered.

Forms and Field, Reflection of a Residency; Italy, new works by Maria Zanetta, opens at our Akron gallery location, 2301 W. Market Street, with a wine and cheese reception on Thursday, October 4th, 5:30-8pm. A gallery talk by the artist will take place at 6:30pm. The exhibition runs through Saturday November 3rd 2018.
