A Streetcar Named Desire

A Streetcar Named Desire

Presented by Rubber City Theatre at The Black Box at Fort Romig

The play reveals to the very depths the character of Blanche du Bois, a woman whose life has been undermined by her romantic illusions, which lead her to reject—so far as possible—the realities of life with which she is faced and which she consistently ignores. The pressure brought to bear upon her by her sister, with whom she goes to live in New Orleans, intensified by the earthy and extremely “normal” young husband of the latter, leads to a revelation of her tragic self-delusion and, in the end, to madness.

This show is recommended for mature audiences due to themes of domestic violence, addiction, trauma and rape. A panel will be held directly following the Friday, October 19 performance with local agencies and organizations to discuss these difficult issues.

Director Katie Wells and a talented group of designers, and performers, including Actor’s Equity Association (AEA) member Michael Gatto as Stanley Kowalski and Equity Member Candidate (EMC) Mary Werntz as Blanche DuBois, bring this classic American tragedy to life. The production will be performed at Rubber City Theatre’s home, The Black Box at Fort Romig (2207 Romig Road), utilizing the company’s preferred style of intimate, engaging staging.

The production opens Friday, October 12 with Rubber City Theatre’s traditional Pay-As-You-Like-It performance, where admission charges are waived thanks to RCT’s generous supporters (audiences are encouraged to “pay as you like it” or donate what they can after the show).
