Denied Admission: A Staged Reading

Denied Admission: A Staged Reading

Presented by Gum-Dip Theatre at Akron Center for Art, Music & Performance (The Center)

Denied Admission is a new play based on credible fear interviews of asylum seekers who crossed the southern U.S. border. Due to the sensitive nature of the material, Gum-Dip Theatre will present two staged readings in March and May respectively in order to garner audience feedback and community support for the full production in July 2019 at The Center.

A 30-minute talkback will follow the staged reading that starts at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 8 and Saturday, March 9. Ticket sales for the staged readings will raise funds for mounting the full-length play.

Credible fear is a concept in United States asylum law whereby a person who demonstrates that he or she has a credible fear of returning to his or her home country cannot be subject to deportation from the United States until the person’s asylum case is processed.
