Gaga/People Movement Class with James Graham

Gaga/People Movement Class with James Graham

Presented by The National Center for Choreography at the University of Akron and The University of Akron School of Dance, Theatre, and Arts Administration at Guzzetta Hall - University of Akron

No prior dance experience needed to take this FREE movement and workout class! San Francisco-based artist James Graham will lead an improvisation that emphasizes enjoyment and freedom. Open to everyone age 16+.

Gaga is the movement language developed by Ohad Naharin, parallel to his work as a choreographer and artistic director of Batsheva Dance Company. Gaga/Dancers classes serve as Batsheva’s daily training and are taught in professional dance companies and schools around the world, while Gaga/People classes are open to everyone age 16+, with no previous dance experience required. Certified Gaga-instructor and San Francisco-based artist James Graham will lead a guided movement experience of images, ideas, directions, and prompts.

Everyone works at their own volume, so whether you have never moved or move every day, you can connect to Gaga. No mirrors or observers are permitted.

This event is part of NCCAkron’s multi-day Dancing Lab, Dance as Cultural Diplomat, which explores the influence of Israeli dance on American choreography and asks: how does national identity inform dancemaking? A full list of programs is available here: nccakron.org/diplomacy
