Presented by Hudson Library & Historical Society at Hudson Library and Historical Society

Keith Law, senior baseball writer for ESPN Insider and an analyst for ESPN’s Baseball Tonight, discusses his book, Smart Baseball: The Story Behind the Old Stats That Are Ruining the Game, the New Ones That Are Running It, and the Right Way to Think About Baseball. The book is an iconoclastic look at baseball’s numbers game proving why some of the most trusted stats are surprisingly wrong, detailing the numbers that actually work, and revealing what the rise of Big Data means for the future of the sport.

Law is a senior baseball writer for ESPN Insider and an analyst for ESPN’s Baseball Tonight, focusing on all types of baseball analysis. Prior to joining ESPN, Law spent four years working as a Special Assistant to the General Manager for the Toronto Blue Jays, handling all statistical analysis, and was previously a writer for Baseball Prospectus (Official). Law graduated from Harvard University and received an MBA from the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University.
