Film Debut "Sister: The Life Ministry of Sister Catherine Walsh

Presented by Joshua Tree Video Productions at Highland's Square Theater

“Sister” Catherine Walsh is a Catholic nun, but she is like a sister to the people in her life, all of whom she treats like her own family. This documentary celebrates Sr. Catherine Walsh’s life and ministry on the occasion of her 60th Jubilee of devotion to God in the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine. Her ministry has taken her from Cleveland’s inner city during the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s, to El Salvador in the 1990s, and back to Akron.  Following in the social activist tradition of Dorothy Day, seeing God in all people, Sr. Catherine is a Catholic Worker devoted to helping the poor and marginalized. In Akron she advocates for immigrants and provides a home for those in need at the Catholic Worker houses she co-founded. This story focuses on Sr. Catherine, but it could be about any sister; any of the countless unsung heroes among us who quietly lead lives of devotion and service, and who choose to treat strangers like family.

Directed, produced, shot, and edited by Josh Gippin of Joshua Tree Productions. Executive Producer Angela Chaffin Miller. Music by Jim Ballard.

This docupic will premiere on Thursday, June 13th at 6:00pm at the Highland Square Theatre, 826 W Market St, Akron OH 44303. This event is free and open to the public.
