COVID-19 UPDATE

The library will be closed Monday, March 16 – Sunday, April 5 in accordance with the closing of all Ohio schools.

Books, CDs, and DVDs may be returned in the book drop, but please do not insert fragile items, such as kits, electronic devices, and items from the Eclectic Collection. Late fees on items will be waived March 16 – April 5, including SearchOhio. We also encourage you to explore the library’s digital offerings.

We appreciate everyone’s efforts to slow the spread of the coronavirus to vulnerable friends, family, and neighbors in our community. We look forward to seeing you again soon. Please check our website and social media for further updates.

“Never before, in the entire history of the American theater, has so much of the truth of black people’s lives been seen on the stage,” observed James Baldwin shortly before A Raisin in the Sun opened on Broadway in 1959. Indeed, Lorraine Hansberry’s award-winning drama about the hopes and aspirations of a struggling, working-class family living on the South Side of Chicago connected profoundly with the psyche of black America–and changed American theater forever.  The play’s title comes from a line in Langston Hughes’s poem “Harlem,” which warns that a dream deferred might “dry up/like a raisin in the sun.”
