The 18th Annual JazzFest will feature Arun Luthra, saxophone, and V. Selvaganesh, percussion, the 2020 Bittle Jazz Artists-in-Residence, generously supported by Frances Yates Bittle.
Arun Luthra is one of the premier saxophonists and composers on New York’s jazz scene, and is one of the small group of American jazz musicians of Indian heritage who have continued to explore to possibilities of fusing the modern post-bop sound with elements of Indian classical music, as well drawing from a wide variety of modern & classic musical influences to create a vibrant new sound & style. He has performed the music of his Konnakol Jazz Project worldwide, including Japan, Italy, the U.K., Australia, and throughout the United States.
V. Selvaganesh is heir to one of the great musical lineages in India and one that has thrived on innovation, generation to generation. He is the son of T. H. “Vikku” Vinayakram, the Grammy Award–winning drummer who was in turn the son of another celebrated percussionist, T. R. Harihara Sarma. V. Selvaganesh continues this legacy as a film score producer and film director.
