Opening the Doors to Improvisation - Virtual Music Camp for Grades 7-12

Presented by Akron Symphonic Winds at Online/Virtual Space

Through the help of the Akron Community Foundation, The Akron Symphonic Winds is sponsoring a “Virtual” summer music camp, being hosted by Hathaway Brown School this summer.   This camp will be FREE for all student musicians enrolled in the Akron Public Schools who are active members of their school music ensembles.

Session 1
Presentation of content, discussion, demonstration, and students playing for each other.

Session 2
Students perform brief improvisations with feedback from professional session guides and other students. The goal is to free musicians from fear of playing their own ideas, gaining confidence in their own voices, and gaining functional experience with and knowledge of improvisation.

Daily, participants will have two sessions with a 15-minute break in between.

The camp will culminate with students recording an improvisation in their favorite style or over their favorite tune for inclusion in a final virtual concert.
