As 2020 draws to a close, the 18th Annual Kaleidoscope Juried Art Exhibition is a joyous celebration of vibrant, local art that can be seen virtually at Summit Artspace from Nov. 20 to Dec. 19. Link to virtual show: summitartspace.org/kaleidoscope-virtual.

The show opened in the Summit Artspace main first floor gallery on Thursday, Nov. 20, and runs until Dec. 19, 2020 online. Admission for the online exhibit is free.

YOU PICK THE ARTIST WHO WINS THE PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARD!

Online viewers will be able to vote for their favorite artist to win the People’s Choice Award, a working kaleidoscope designed and hand-blown by glass artist, Bob Pozarski. The winner will be announced at the end of the show on the Summit Artspace website.

The art of printmaking, with its long and enduring history, has continued to develop and diversify well into the twenty-first century. Artists are using the multiplicity and accessibility of print media to comment on relevant issues and promote change. In addition, the printmaking process is incredibly experiential, allowing for artists to engage with the medium and communicate their personal interests and concerns. Printmaking encompasses a wide range of techniques including etching, monotypes, screen printing, lithography, stenciling, and countless others as well as combinations. all of which are welcome in this exhibition.

Summit Artspace in partnership with the Kent State University School of Art presents The Art of Print. The juror is  J. Leigh Garcia, Print Media and Photography Professor at Kent State University.  https://www.jleighgarcia.com

Open for Business showcases art by the most recent participants in the Artist as an Entrepreneur Institute at Summit Artspace. AEI is a partnership among Summit Artspace, Arts Cleveland and the Burton D. Morgan Foundation which funds the annual program. AEI is open to individuals who are interested in or are already becoming entrepreneurs in the creative arts, including but not limited to visual art, music, theatre, dance, and writing.  Participants receive foundational business knowledge and hands-on training as part of the curriculum in this multi-week course.
Artists also have the opportunity to meet with and learn from successful creative entrepreneurs in Akron and the surrounding area. In addition to the class curriculum, participants receive the benefits of a supportive peer group and the exchange of unique perspectives on growing their creative business.  The Open for Business show is the capstone project for the 2019-2020 cohort that concluded at the beginning of the global pandemic.
