“We all live in the here and now but our world was shaped by the legacy of those who came before us,” Kecman suggests. “These are portraits of people who left an indelible mark on their time and have left an enduring legacy for ours.”
HEAD2HEAD | MILAN KECMAN
WELCOME GALLERY | JANUARY 15 – MARCH 27, 2021
In Head2Head, artist Milan Kecman explores the pairing of faces and personalities of the past—examining the parallels and tangents their lives took. Thought the canvas is divided into two equal halves, his attempt is to create the illusion of one person. By aligning the eyes, nose, mouth, and the tops of their heads and chins, a first glance the look is that of a single portait.
“We all live in the here and now,” Kecman observes, “but there were other times, people and places…These are portaits of people who, in their time and place, left behind something that we, in this time and place, were affected by or remember. Our existence and our deeds connect us all, in many ways that future generations will remember. Various cultures, different races, philosphies and genders, yet the common thread is humanity.” In these paintings the story of the human race can be seen in the human face.
