The Cuyahoga Valley Art Center (CVAC) is proud to present Artists Interpret Nature, displayed March 9 thru April 15, 2021. Birds, flowers and trees can live both inside and out. World famous bird carver and award winner, Tom Baldwin, makes birds look so real they could almost move. Award winning painters, Deanna Clucas and Sally Heston have their special way of creating landscapes and florals to accompany those birds.

Tom Baldwin is an internationally award winning wildfowl carving artist.  He recently won 2nd Best in the World at the 2017 Ward World Wildfowl Carving Championship in Interpretive Division,  M & T Printing purchase award at the Canadian National Wildfowl Carving Championship, and has won back-to-back Best in Shows at the Wings and Water Festival,  Award of excellence at the 2014 Kaleidoscope Holiday show, 1st place at the 2015 Kaleidoscope Holiday show, top 5 runner up for the Akron High Arts Festival 5 years in a row and Best of Show at the 29th Annual Regional Juried Art Show at the Cuyahoga Valley Art Center.  Tom also received the best sculpture award at the 70th Annual Ohio Exhibition at the Zanesville Museum of Art. Tom’s new book “Three Carving Projects for the Beginner” was released in 2018.  Tom was also accepted into the prestigious 2019 “Birds in Art” Exhibition at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum in Wausau, Wisconsin. He also judges for the Ward World Wildfowl Championship, The Canadian National Wildfowl Carving Championship, Ohio Decoy Carvers and Collectors Show and the New Brunswick Woodcarving Show.

Tom lives in Akron, Ohio with his wife, Barbara, and their two dogs.

Deanna R. Clucas’s (watercolor & acrylics) experience as an artist covers most of her life, but changed to a professional career over the last twenty-five years.  She works in several mediums in a vast array of subjects from realistic to abstract.  Earning a degree in Commercial Art from the University of Akron and taking ongoing classes and workshops keeps her work fresh. Besides several one-woman shows, she exhibits in numerous group, and indoor-outdoor shows.  Her award winning work can be found throughout the U.S.  Deanna also teaches Drawing for the Novice and private lessons in drawing and beginning watercolor in her home studio.

Sally Heston’s Website
Sally Heston’s career as an artist and art teacher spans over four decades and includes work experience in a variety of media and content.  Sally has a BS in art education from Indiana University of PA (cum laude) and an MEd in art from the University of Pittsburgh.  She works in graphite, watercolor, pastel and acrylic.  A prize winning artist, she has had several one-person exhibits and has been part of numerous group art exhibits.  Her artwork is included in private collections locally and throughout the United States and Europe.  She is retired elementary and secondary school art teacher and recently retired from teaching at Virginia Marti College in Lakewood, OH.  Among other groups, she is a signature member of the Ohio and Pennsylvania Watercolor Societies and the Whiskey Painters of America.
