CVAC: FlipSide

Presented by Cuyahoga Valley Art Center at Cuyahoga Valley Art Center

FLIPSIDE
Featuring Artists: Linda Hutchinson & Susan Mencini & Mo Mosyjowski

APRIL 27TH – JUNE 3RD, 2021
The Cuyahoga Valley Art Center (CVAC) is proud to present FlipSide, displayed April 27th – June 3, 2021. This exhibit will feature work created by Linda Hutchinson, Susan Mencini, & Mo Mosyjowski. These artists excel at pushing the envelope on how a medium can be utilized. Whether it is exploring the boundaries of what watercolor, acrylic and oils can do or mixing mediums to create ethereal pieces, these artists have the ability to transcend their viewers to a unique time and place. The title ‘FlipSide’ describes this exhibit’s exploration into the other side of flora, fauna, and the human figure.

Artist Biographies:

Linda Hutchinson has been an instructor in drawing, watercolor and oils at CVAC for approximately fifteen years, she estimates.  She holds a BA in French from Miami (OH) University.  Notably, Linda has been awarded the Ohio Watercolor Society Gold Medal (2001) and designed the First Night Akron button in 2008.  Most recently, she won the 2017 The Art of Watercolour Magazine reader’s contest for her image “Hydrangea Blooms” and was featured in an interview piece in the magazine’s 26th edition.  Her affiliations include: Hudson Fine Art and Framing; Ohio Arts Council; Sharon Weiss Gallery (Columbus, Ohio); signature memberships in the Akron Society of Artists, the Ohio Watercolor Society and the American Watercolor Society; and an associate membership in Oil Painters of America.

Susan Mencini is a 1980 graduate of Cooper School of Art in Cleveland and studied at Kent State University. In college, Susan’s major was Printmaking and she has incorporated some of its processes into her paintings. She primarily uses fluid acrylics with a transparent watercolor application. Susan has taught at CVAC since 2004 and also teaches Art at Cornerstone Community School in Tallmadge.  Recent awards: Susan won the Kaleidoscope Award at Summit ArtSpace in 2016.

Mary “Mo” Mosyjowski does not limit her artwork to just one medium, instead she boldly experiments with different combinations of mediums creating works that are unique and transcendent. Her many years of experience in watercolor, acrylic, collage, oil, batik, gelli plate printing, etc., lead her to maintain a successful teaching career. Mosyjowski has been teaching private lessons and workshops since 2006 covering subjects such as alcohol inks, Pysanka, altered books, gelli plate printing, and paper making. Currently at the Cuyahoga Valley Art Center, she teaches an abstraction and embellishments class, essentials of beginning acrylics class and their alcohol ink workshops. She is also a signature member of Akron Society of Artists and Group 10 Gallery. Mosyjowski has won numerous awards across the region for her artwork, most notably winning the People’s Choice Award within the annual Kaleidoscope exhibition at Summit ArtSpace for her altered book of self-portraits. Another interesting fact about her, is that growing up she had a pet chicken named Whitey.
