Virtual Dance Club: March 2021

Presented by The National Center for Choreography at the University of Akron at Online/Virtual Space

Join NCCAkron on Thursday, March 18 for our first Virtual Dance Club of 2021!

Based on our in-person Dance Club that occurred in 2018, we’ve brought our social experiment for dance audiences to the virtual space. Participants watch dance together and engage in an informal discussion afterwards.

This month’s edition of Virtual Dance Club is curated by Amy Seiwert and Ben Needham-Wood of Amy Seiwert’s Imagery.

In their curation, Amy and Ben set up a series of opposites — stage versus film, myth versus reality, and their own different approaches to narrative work.

Amy and Ben say: “Organizationally, Imagery is all about exploding preconceptions of what ballet is and what ballet can be. For that, we constantly question. By looking at opposites, or even perceived opposites, we can dig deeper into those questions.”

This event will be hosted by NCCAkron Graduate Assistant DeMarcus Akeem Suggs.

Virtual Dance Club will take place through a video Zoom meeting. We have found that using a computer, laptop, or tablet work best for these kinds of meetings, but you can join with a smartphone as well. All you need is an internet connection, webcam, and your curiosity!

Enrollment is free, and strictly limited to ten participants.

If you are unable to attend, please let us know within 24 hours so we can accommodate those on the waitlist.
