Opening Reception: "Birds of Paradise" & "Dumpster Dive"

Presented by Cummings Center for the History of Psychology at The University of Akron at Cummings Center for the History of Psychology at The University of Akron

Two new exhibits are opening at the Cummings Center for the History of Psychology!

Birds of Paradise is a video series of dance-based queer solo portraits on themes of agency, survival, and transformation. Created by Miami-based choreographer and dance artist Pioneer Winter, this exhibit honors and celebrates the enduring nature of queer and marginalized people to shape themselves into something that is desirable, vulnerable, fierce, and reborn. Winter’s work has been brought to Akron by the National Center for Choreography at UA, which is currently hosting Winter for a technical residency.

Dumpster Dive is an exhibit created by students enrolled in the Art Installation course at Myers School of Art. This exhibit envelopes the Cummings Center atrium with a variety of nontraditional sculptures reminiscent of everyday encounters.

An opening reception for both exhibits will be held Friday, December 3rd from 4:00pm-7:00pm at the Cummings Center. Admission will be free during the reception, and visitors are asked to RSVP online. The Cummings Center is located on-campus at 73 S College St.
