"Black Joy" Exhibition by Adana Tillman

Presented by Akron Soul Train at Akron Soul Train

Adana Tillman uses fabric, black hair traditions, pattern, beading and embroidery in her figurative work.  Her residency work, titled “Black Joy”, will include a vintage school desk that has been painted with added wood relief carvings into the surface. Accompanying this assemblage is an audio/visual component.  Tillman will interview black men on the long-time activity of creating musical rhythms with pens/pencils/hands on the desk surface. Additionally, Adana Tillman will create 3D dioramas depicting the everyday life of her subjects using fabrics and paint with quilting techniques.
