Guest pianist Jasmin Arakawa

Guest pianist Jasmin Arakawa will host a recital on Friday, November 4 at 7:30 p.m. in Guzzetta Recital Hall.  Arakawa is Associate Professor of Piano and Piano Area Coordinator at the University of Florida, and the Director of the UF International Piano Festival.

Prior to her recital, Arakawa will present her talk “Technique vs. Musicality?” on Friday, November 4 at 10 a.m. in Guzzetta Recital Hall.  She will discuss techniques to help pianists become more expressive and musical. We will have examples from the standard piano repertoire to discuss the ways to reach the next level of artistry.

From 2 to 4 p.m., Arakawa will work with UA piano students in a masterclass in Guzzetta Room 147.

The University of Akron School of Music is proud to host Jasmin Arakawa in collaboration with the Ohio MTA Middle East district.

Jasmin Arakawa, a prizewinner of the Jean Françaix International Music Competition, has been heard at Carnegie Hall, Salle Gaveau in Paris and Victoria Hall in Geneva, as well as in broadcasts of the ABC Australia, BBC, CBC, PBS and Radio France. Arakawa is a graduate of Tokyo University of the Arts, and holds Doctor of Music and Master of Music degrees in Piano Performance from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, where she studied with Emile Naoumoff, the last protégé of Nadia Boulanger.
