Herakles and Busiris Exhibition

Herakles and Busiris Exhibition

Presented by FJKluth Art Gallery at FJKluth Art Gallery

Kicking off the new year the FJKluth Art Gallery will be unveiling our next exhibition, “Herakles and Busiris.” The exhibition features 14 digital reproduction paintings created by Koen Setaywan of Indonesia, based from sketches by Frederick John Kluth.

The artwork featured in “Herakles and Busiris” is a narrative of the stories of Herakes, the divine hero in Greek mythology, based on the 11th out of 12 labors of Herakles. The Eleventh Labor of Herakles was about Herakles tasked to bring Eurystheus, the king of Tiryns, the golden apples which belonged to Zeus. Each of the 14 paintings feature a key moment of Herakles’ journey.

Koen Setyawan (1970) is an Indonesian artist who graduated from the University of Brawijaya Malang, Indonesia, in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. He started his career as an illustrator in 1995 by joining a local publisher in Malang. After graduating, he published his first book in Elex Media Komputindo, one of Indonesia’s top publishers. His work uses a combination of watercolor and colored pencils, collaborating with authors for their books, or with other artists. He has been featured in the Asian Festival of Children’s Content (AFCC), Bratislava Biennale Ilustracii in Slovakia, and Mongabay Indonesia as an Indonesian wildlife illustrator.

“Herakles and Busiris” opening reception will begin on Saturday, January 7th, 2023 at 6pm. The exhibition will be on display through Saturday, February 4th, 2023 at FJKluth Art Gallery located at 300 North Water Street, Suite I; Kent, OH 44240. The exhibition is free and open to the public.
