This seminar introduces groups to the basic concepts of toxic and responsible charity and invites groups to consider why traditional charity paradigms are not working and to envision a new and better way forward.
“Give a man a fish, he eats for a night. Teach a man to fish, he eats for his life.” This seminar begins to examine this very concept through interactive discussions using Robert Lupton’s book, Toxic Charity, as a guide. According to Lupton, “Public Service is a way of life for Americans; giving is a part of our national character. But compassionate instincts and generous spirits aren’t enough. “ Participants will look at real life examples and participate in thought-provoking exercises, leaving ready to chart a new course for more responsible charity.
