The Joy of Voting!

The Joy of Voting!

Presented by The Bliss Institute, The University of Akron + Citizen University at Summit Artspace

You are invited to participate in a convening on Wednesday April 27 at Summit Artspace. The topic is reinvigorating a culture of voting.  Citizen University, in partnership with the Ray C. Bliss Institute of Applied Politics at The University of Akron, and with support from Knight Foundation, is launching a new project to spark civic creativity in local elections in four cities around the country, including Akron.

For much of American history, local elections were surrounded by raucous and celebratory activity. Street theater, open-air debates, bonfires and festivals were a part of every election. Debate was passionate and creative. But ever since the advent and spread of television, this longtime American tradition has atrophied, with the couch replacing the public square, and elections losing the touch of the creative and the local. That’s why we launched the Joy of Voting project – to bring back an active, participatory, and joyful 21st century culture of voting.

On April 27, join an incredible group of local artists, activists, designers and organizers to ideate, imagine, and collaborate. Following this convening, you will have an opportunity to submit proposals for funding for concrete projects to be implemented before Election Day this November.
