Nineteen college and university music students have received nearly $21,000 through TuesdayMusical’s 2016 Scholarship Competition.

Many will perform in Tuesday Musical’s free 2016 Scholarship Winners Concert on Sunday, May 15, 4:00 p.m. at Fairlawn West United Church of Christ, 2095 W. Market St. Two additional performance scholarships — one for $1,000 and one for $2,000 — will be awarded during a post-concert reception.

The 2016 competition, held in March at The University of Akron’s School of Music drew 107 music students who are Ohio residents and/or whose music teachers are Ohio residents. Categories included music education, brass, organ, piano, strings, voice, woodwinds and, new this year, classical guitar.

Tuesday Musical’s annual scholarship competition is widely recognized as one of the best in Ohio. Since starting the competition in 1955 with support from generous donors, Tuesday Musical has awarded more than 500 scholarships ranging from $500 to $2,000.

Founded in Akron in 1887, Tuesday Musical presents concerts, educational programs, and community engagement activities that feature internationally acclaimed classical artists and ensembles, as well as young emerging artists embarking on major careers. For more information about Tuesday Musical, visit tuesdaymusical.org.
