New York Times Bestselling Author Paula McLain

Presented by Hudson Library & Historical Society at Hudson Library & Historical Society

New York Times bestselling author of The Paris Wife, Paula McLain, returns to discuss her new novel. In Circling the Sun, McLain transports readers to Colonial Kenya in the 1920s, bringing to life the story of real-life adventurer and aviator Beryl Markham, and her passionate love triangle with safari hunter Denys Finch Hatton and Karen Blixen, author of the classic memoir Out of Africa. Circling the Sun is a New York Times bestseller and named one of the best books of 2015 by NPR, BookPage, and Shelf Awareness. NPR called the book “Richly textured…Markham’s life is the stuff of legend…McLain has created a voice that is lush and intricate to evoke a character who is enviably brave and independent.”

Paula McLain received her MFA in poetry from the University of Michigan in 1996. Since then, she has received fellowships from the corporation of Yaddo, the MacDowell Colony, the Ucross Foundation, the Ohio Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts. She is the author of two collections of poetry as well as a memoir, Like Family, and novels Ticket to Ride and The Paris Wife.
