Highland Square Branch Library opened in 1930 in a house near Highland Square and moved to its present location in March 1956.(West Hill Library)

The building was in use until July of 2005 when the branch was closed and the collection put in storage for a year in order to tear down the building and replace it with a new, 12,000 square foot library on the same site. Our new building opened on Monday August 27, 2007 and was renamed Highland Square Branch Library. The newer facility offers the community two meeting rooms, a significantly larger collection, and more computers for public use. Current library statistics show that Highland Square Branch has 12,631 registered borrowers, current collection size of 74,706 and in 2010 circulated 215,092 items.

We are open 6 days a week to meet your needs for education, information and recreation.
Our friendly, skilled staff includes a branch manager who is also the teen librarian, a adult services librarian, a early childhood librarian, 4 public service assistants, a shelver, and 3 student assistants.

At Highland Square Branch Library you can find a diverse collection of items in a variety of formats. Because of community interest in these topics, our collection is particularly strong in the areas of Black history and literature; Holocaust studies; mysteries; large print books; college and career planning; gay and lesbian studies; and audio visual materials.
