The Akron Urban League, founded in 1925, is a nonprofit social service agency, with a mission to improve the quality of life for citizens of Summit County – particularly African-Americans – through economic self-reliance and social empowerment. The agency fulfills its mission through programming in the areas of education, employment, and entrepreneurship that reach individuals from youth to senior citizens. Annually, the Akron Urban League serves nearly 13,000 individuals through job placement assistance, business education, computer training, GED preparation, emergency food distribution, scholarships, and other services to those in need.
