Discussing his influences, Papadimas cites Dylan-esque balladry, Leonard Cohen’s most recent touring ensembles, and string-band revivalists such as Old Crow Medicine Show, as well as Greek Rembetiko–the “Greek Blues.”
Demos Papadimas (guitar/vocals/harmonica/bouzouki) skillfully intertwines his love of both American roots music with the influence of Mediterranean rhythms and harmonies. Based in Northeast Ohio, Papadimas and his band have performed regularly in the Cleveland-Pittsburgh corridor since 2012 and received considerable regional attention.
His folk melodies are counterbalanced by the classical intonations of violinist Sandi Quotson, the tight brushwork of drummer Ralph Rich, the jazz influences of double-bassist Nils Johnson, and the euphonic sounds of pedal steel guitarist Al Moss.
Collectively, the band welcomes its listeners on a unique tour through familiar American song structures.
Papadimas’ new album, Waiting, was recorded by Pete Drivere at Ampreon Recorder in Youngstown, Ohio and released on Record Store Day 2016.
