Conductor-less, Grammy-more

Working without a conductor, Orpheus has revolutionized how audiences think about classical music and orchestral leadership.

Now the Grammy-winning ensemble takes the EJ stage with violinist Augustin Hadelich, who last year won his own Grammy.

Hadelich plays on a 1723 Ex-Kiesewetter Stradivarius, on loan from Clement and Karen Arrison through the Stradivari Society of Chicago.

  • Irving Fine’s Serious Song, Lament for String Orchestra
  • Franz Schubert’s Rondo in A major, D. 438 for Violin and Strings
  • Franz Joseph Haydn’s Violin Concerto in C major, Hob. Vlla:1
  • Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings — written back-to-back with the 1812 Overture, the composer regarded the Serenade as one of his finest works, but merely tolerated his booming Overture
