The work featured in this show is a small snapshot of a great body of work Diane has done in oil pastels over the past 10 years.
This newer work is still firmly grounded in the same formalist ideas that have interested her since her beginnings as a professional artist: large hard-edged architectural acrylic paintings. But while working with architectural images, it became obvious that architecture is more amenable to acrylic paint than it is to oil pastels. I decided to step back from the architecture for a while and began experimenting with floral images–although some elements of architecture still exist in them.

Diane Belfiglio (pronounced Bel FEE lee o) earned her B.F.A. in Drawing, Painting, and Graphics from The Ohio State University in 1978, and her M.F.A. in Painting from Syracuse University in 1980.
