An Evening with Robert Gaudi, Author of The War of Jenkins’ Ear

On Monday, November 1 at 7 p.m. the Hudson Library & Historical Society will host a live virtual streaming event with Robert Gaudi, author of The War of Jenkins’ Ear: The Forgotten Struggle for North and South America: 1739-1742. Dubbed “action-packed [and] extensively researched” by Publishers Weekly, The War of Jenkins’ Ear delivers the incredible story of a forgotten war that shaped the fate of the United States and the entire Western Hemisphere.

In the early 18th century, the British and Spanish Empires were fighting for economic supremacy in the Americas.  Wars blossomed like violent flowers for nearly a hundred years, from the War of Spanish Succession, culminating in the War of Jenkins’ Ear. This war would lay the groundwork for the French and Indian War and, eventually, the War of the American Revolution.  The War of Jenkins’ Ear was a world war in the truest sense, engaging the major European powers on battlefields ranging from Europe to the Americas to the Asian subcontinent.

Gaudi is a writer, historian, and journalist whose work has appeared in the Washington Post, the Washington Examiner, Harper’s, Landscape Architecture Magazine, and Tri-Quarterly, among other publications. He graduated from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville and has worked various jobs including with the National Endowment for the Arts.

Copies of The War of Jenkins’ Ear will be available for purchase courtesy of the Learned Owl Book Shop. Registration for this program is required and a valid email address is required at time of registration. Participants will receive an email invitation to attend the program, hosted on Zoom, a day before the program begins.
