Downtown Akron Partnership is accepting applications for the fifth annual Akron Art Prize sponsored by the Margaret Clark Morgan Foundation. The application process closes July 15. In the last four years, Akron Art Prize has made art more accessible to the Summit County community and provided public exposure to local artists.
Akron Art Prize is a month-long arts experience open to visual artists with public voting via digital app and tablets. Each artist, or collaborative group, must pay a $25 fee and sign an agreement to participate. Artists must be at least 18 years of age.
Visit akronartprize.org for full details including links to entry forms, rules and regulations and more.
The University of Akron will underwrite any UA student or collaborative group entry by sponsoring the $25 fee. All current UA students are welcome to enter; not just those studying the visual arts.
The School of Art at Kent State University will also sponsor the application fee for students enrolled in the School of Art as well as students who have graduated from the School of Art within the last two years (June 2014-June 2016).
Through added support from the Burton D. Morgan Foundation, Akron Art Prize offers valuable tools for artists to navigate the path to entrepreneurship. These include the Akron Art Prize app with artist name, title, artist statement, profile information and links to websites and social media. Professional photography of each entry, networking and educational opportunities and card holders for artist materials is provided to participating entrants.
