The Cuyahoga Valley Art Center, a non-profit visual arts organization, advocates for a greater understanding of the visual arts through the promotion of art education, exhibition and community engagement.
The Cuyahoga Valley Art Center, is seeking a Visual Arts Instructor to be responsible for developing students’ interest in and the ability for creative expression in visual terms; to develop aesthetic understandings and appreciations; to discover and develop talents of students in the field of visual art.
The Visual Arts Instructor will perform all or some of the following Job description:
• Teach knowledge and skills in art, including drawing, painting, lettering, and art history,
• Demonstrate techniques in activities such as drawing and painting with a variety of media
• Understand the versatility of acrylic paints: dry brushing, staining, layering, underpainting, mono-printing
• Understand a variety of “masters” techniques
• Knows and can apply elements of design and modern principles of art
• Knows the fundamentals and different approaches to drawing media technique
• Provide individual and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students with varying age and artistic abilities, and to accommodate a variety of instructional activities
• Instruct students in proper care and use of tools and equipment
• Organize storage areas and control use of materials, equipment and tools to prevent loss or abuse, and to minimize time required for distribution and collection
• Prepare all lesson plans and curriculum, provides summary to Executive Director
• Prepare and keep up to date a class supply list for students
• Set up classroom and return studio spaces to original configuration and cleanliness
• Perform any other duties as may be assigned by Administration
Minimum Requirements / Knowledge / Skill for Visual Arts Instructor Position
• Two years’ work experience as an art teacher
• Five years’ experience as a fine artist
Minimum Education Requirements / Certification
• High School Diploma
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Fine Arts (preferred but not required for each position)
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Art Education (preferred but not required for each position)
