Presented by Mary Schiller Myers School of Art: The University of Akron at Mary Schiller Myers School of Art: The University of Akron, Akron OH

Oct 31 2019
Dafi Kühne Lecture

Celebrated printmaker Dafi Kühne from Näfels, Switzerland. Presented as part of the 2019/2020 Myers Residencies.

Dafi Kühne is a graphic designer and letterpress printer. He earned his undergraduate degree from the Visual Communications Department of Zurich University of the Arts. During his studies he interned with Hatch Show Print in Nashville TN, focusing on letterpress printed posters with wood type. After learning the very traditional approach of letterpress printing, he focused on more contemporary methods and explored the potential of the laser cutter in combination with the traditional printing equipment. His diploma project “Woodtype Now!” investigated and documented new opportunities in production and printing letterpress printing blocks.

Since 2009 Dafi Kühne has built up his studio and workshop babyinktwice (www.babyinktwice.ch) in Näfels, Switzerland, specializing in award-winning posters, invitations, brochures and magazines for music, art, architecture, theatre, and film projects. In 2016, his monograph True Print was published by Lars Müller Publishers.
