GroundWorks returns to the Akron Art Museum for the second year of a two year project in partnership with the Museum, funded through a Knights Foundation Arts Challenge Award

Join GroundWorks this fall as we return to the Akron Art Museum for the second year of a two year project in partnership with the Museum, funded through a Knight Foundation Arts Challenge Award to create new dance in response to selected work from the Museum’s permanent collection. The work will be premiered at the Akron Art Museum December 12th and 14th. Executive Artistic Director David Shimotahakara identified 5 images from the Akron Art Museum’s acclaimed photography collection, as a starting point for his new work.

“I selected 5 photographers/artists, 3 women and 2 men, whose creative ideas and processes could not be more different. I felt however, these artists share a distinctive vision of what it means to be fully alive in oneself and to the world around us. They each allow us to connect to other places, people, history, and experiences in ways that remind us how we come to understand our identity and the process of becoming who we are.” – David Shimotakahara
