Spotlight Artist during our 2023 Members’ Show, Nick Lee uses self-portraiture to address post-pandemic racial disparities and the dangers that threaten minorities in this country.
Nick Lee is a painter and 2021 Kent State graduate. Lee’s work is inspired by the diversity of the human experience. As a Japanese-American, Lee’s visual art strives to better represent minorities like himself in American portraiture. Lee paints his own personal story to share with other Asian Americans and to educate non-Japanese about his culture. Lee is the 2023 recipient of the Distinguished Citizen for Art Education and was awarded the Urgent Art Fund from SPACES in 2022. Lee has three artist residencies planned for 2023 at Hopewell Farms, ATNSC, and Fever Dream
