BEGINNING – ADVANCED: In this one-day intensive workshop, participants can explore the ancient art of marbling on paper. The workshop encompasses an exploration of patterns and design through marbling on various types of paper. The color combinations and marbling techniques will be examined using both traditional (Ebru) and non-traditional approaches. Attendees, whether beginners or advanced, can anticipate creating between 12 to 40 sheets of marbled paper, depending on their individual pace.
The marbling process involves suspending inks on a bed of thickened water (carrageenan), and these inks are manipulated through a sequence of swirls, zigzags, and other gestures to achieve a desired design. Prior experience with marbling is not a prerequisite- the workshop provides a comprehensive introduction and a series of demonstrations to guide participants through the entire experience.
NOTE: If a student wishes to sign up for a Marbling Workshop on both August 10th & August 11th, the instructor will give the student additional instructions for creating more detailed pieces within the second workshop attended.
STUDENT SUPPLY LIST:
– Any additional special paper pre-alumed
– Apron and gloves (if needed)
– Sketchbook for taking notes
– Number 2 pencil for marking the back of papers
– Lunch

WORKSHOP DETAILS:
Refreshments and light snacks will be provided. Please pack your lunch for this workshop. If you cannot, there are local places where staff can recommend ordering boxed lunches. Students will need to pick up and pay for these lunches during their designated lunch.
Payment in full is due 14 days before the workshop start date.
All deposits, $50, are non-refundable unless CVAC cancels the workshop.
Refunds, less deposit, will not be issued for attendee cancelations 14 days before the workshop start date.

INSTRUCTOR INFORMATION: JENNIFFER OMAITZ
(1979, Cleveland, OH) Jenniffer Omaitz lives and works out of her studio in Kent, OH. She holds an M.F.A. in painting from Kent State University and a B.F.A. in painting from the Cleveland Institute of Art. Omaitz is an Abstract Painter and Installation artist with a practice that spans over 20 years. In 2016, Omaitz started JC Marbling after 14 months of independent research and experimentation with the process. JC Marbling & Book Arts was founded to pursue the practice of marbling, book arts, and as a teaching outreach for the craft of marbling. She currently sells her handmade books and cards at the Morgan Paper Conservatory, BayArts in Bay Village, Ohio; Apple Tree Books, and the Minnesota Center for Book Arts, to name just a few locations.
