Melissa Markwald is a senior at the University of Akron and will be graduating with a degree in Painting and Drawing in Fall 2016. Her large scale oil painting portraits turn average-every day people into iconic figures. Melissa has displayed work in the Akron Art Museum, and had her senior exhibition and the Massillon Museum. Over the past couple years she has received several grants, such as a Dashiel’s Tools and Materials Grant to explore over sized portraiture. She has been involved in the university as a member of the Student Art League and as the president of the Akron Painting League. Melissa is also a Security Guard and Exhibition Technician at the Akron Art Museum.
