White is well-known around the area and in Ohio for his ceramic sculpture, mural drawing and ice carving; for him there is no choosing between them. When in the studio, he realizes that he is always in need of both two- and three-dimensions to communicate. Both forms of art utilize anatomy and proportion to bring forth qualities of human nature that are at once tangible and relatable to the viewer.
White sculpts busts to create a moment in time we all might recognize within our own reality, with an underlying, more complex message disguised behind what appears to be obvious.
His drawings have always ranged from small to large scale mural work. The viewer can see a purposeful “tightness” or “crowding” of the subjects in the composition that is intended to create a certain tension within the viewer. The distortion of the anatomy and proportion brings in a touch of surrealism.
White’s work is in a number of private homes and collections. He shows throughout Akron, Cleveland, the Short North in Columbus, in Barberton at Summit Artspace on Tusc where he has a studio and now at the Nine Muses Art Gallery. White also works out of a studio at Summit Artspace on East Market in downtown Akron. Visitors can see his works and talk with White when the artspace locations are open for the public.
