An Abyss of Sunshine: Kwame Gomez Senior Exhibition

Join the Cummings Center for the History of Psychology and Myers School of Art for student Kwame Gomez’s senior exhibition, An Abyss of Sunshine.

An Abyss of Sunshine centers on the creation of Ancestral realms, figures, and mythical universes in futuristic setting; and explores ceremony and how it is a culmination of reaction, intensity, sensation, and time. Through the language of collage and mixed media, spaces are created where the Black-figure and viewer can simply rest and exist in our own autonomy. These ceremonial realms highlight the sacred connections between nature and blackness.

The University of Akron Covid-19 regulations permit a max of 10 people per gathering. In order to observe this capacity, guests may RSVP to reserve 30 minute time slots to attend this event via timed ticketing. If max capacity in the gallery has been reached, you will be asked to wait until visitors leave the space. For everyone’s safety, we ask for your patience and understanding.

This exhibition will run from Friday April 30 through Thursday, August 12, 2021. After its dedicated opening, guests may view the exhibition during the Cummings
